Gov. Sanford Praises Passage of Charter School Bill GOVERNOR SAYS PASSAGE OF KEY EDUCATION AGENDA ITEM AN IMPORTANT STEP TOWARD GIVING FAMILIES MORE CHOICES
Columbia, S.C. - January 31, 2006 - Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following statement in support of the S.C. Senate's passage of H.3010, legislation aimed at stimulating charter school creation by establishing a Statewide Public Charter School District to authorize charters:
"This bill has been a top priority for us because establishing more charter schools in our state would be a great win for every parent and student in South Carolina," Gov. Mark Sanford said. "This is an important step toward creating an educational system that recognizes what every parent knows from day one - God makes every child unique, and therefore it makes sense to have a diversity of choices that fits with that diversity of kids. I want to thank the Senate Republican Caucus for pushing this bill through, and I'd ask the House to concur on this bill and send it to my desk as quickly as possible."
