Parental Choice:
Parental Choice restores every parent’s right to choose the finest schools for their children. SC PIE supports parental choice in education. Parents understand their children’s needs best and have the responsibility and the right to select the optimum learning environment for their children.
The Gallup Organization and Phi Delta Kappa International polled more than 1000 adults across the country on various issues surrounding public education and the clear result is that parents want the ability to choose. (2004)
Today, every option for parental choice only exists for the wealthy, those who can pay tuition at private schools or move to better public school districts. Parental choice options like charter schools and tax credit programs (including scholarship opportunities for low-income families) will extend the fundamental freedom of parental choice to middle and low-income parents in South Carolina.
Expanding parental choice can provide a vehicle for needed change, foster greater accountability to parents, and enhance the education children receive in South Carolina.
SC PIE also supports the parent choice of home schooling and government policies that support this choice.
