Objective Science Education

SC PIE advocates teaching the origin of life objectively and supports public school students having access to scientific evidence that supports both naturalistic origins and Intelligent Design.

Intelligent Design advocates do not suggest that this theory replace that of Darwinian Evolution or that it be taught exclusively, although this is what Evolutionists demand of their position. South Carolina children should be made aware of the controversy that exists in the scientific community concerning the theories of origin and they should have the ability to examine the evidence on both sides.

Dr. Philip S. Skell, a Professor at Penn State University and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, wrote, “Intellectual freedom is fundamental to the scientific method. Learning to think creatively, logically and critically is the most important training that young scientists can receive. Encouraging students to carefully examine the evidence for and against neo-Darwinism, therefore, will help prepare students not only to understand current scientific arguments, but also to do good scientific research”.

Four hundred scientists have now expressed support for Discovery Institute’s statement, “We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged”.
